Product Development – Wireless: Architecture, Design and Implementation Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Job Description:
The candidate filling this position will work within the Wireless Product Development organization, assisting other members of the team with the ongoing architecture, design and implementation of rich media/visual voicemail services. The individual will function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a primary focus on the network side. The work will involve providing expertise on the detailed design and existing implementation of the
network server platform across a number of network environments including production,
staging, Systems Integration Test (SIT) and performance test labs. Responsibilities include interfacing with solution vendors and number of internal cross-organizational teams that are responsible for implementing and supporting the product, such as development, support, network and Operations. The primary responsibilities are to
- act as overall network server implementation SME;
- assist other organizations in designing and implementing platform upgrades;
- provide ongoing technical support to other organizations, such as troubleshooting/RCA and fix verification;
- assist with architecture, and design/integration of new service features.
The candidate will also have responsibility for integrating voicemail services with other
Rich IP Communications labs, including configuring IMS components (e.g., CSCF, HSS,
and presence server), running SIP traces, and debugging system, database, operating
systems, hardware, networking, or software problems.
The work will also involve services and technologies related to IMS and SIP, for example - network address books, presence, VoIP, video communications, IM, social network integration, GSMA RCS, and 3GPP, and may include hands on setup and evaluation of communication vendor systems and solutions, service prototyping, demonstrations and usability analysis.
Other job responsibilities include specifying technical requirements, evaluating technicalproposals, developing overall solutions, managing vendors, negotiating contracts, documenting system designs, leading reviews with other stakeholders, writing test plans, participating in system function and performance verification, providing technical design support to downstream engineering, support, and maintenance organizations.
The position requires significant interaction with both external vendors and internal stakeholders (marketing, IT, network planning, and operations).
Previous experience working in a fast-moving team within a large Tier-1 Wireless carrier environment is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Independent and self-motivated, willing and able to take initiative, overcome obstacles, and provide technical leadership.
• Superior transport and network knowledge and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on wireless telephony and/or highly secure systems.
• 10+ years experience working in telecom industry, preferably with CDMA wireless focus.
• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Deep knowledge of Sun/Oracle hardware and Solaris
• Strong technical understanding of Oracle RAC & DB
• Previous product design, project management, and/or system design experience related to wireless voice, video, voicemail, messaging, and/or presence services.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral), and the ability to work effectively with others across and within the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly assess the issues at hand, and provide a concise understanding, with recommendations when possible, to senior management.
• Quickly master and apply new technologies, and stay abreast of industry trends.
• Deep technical knowledge of wireless IP-based communications system architectures, protocols, and standards (e.g., 3GPP IMS, SIP/SIMPLE, GSMARCS, MMTel, XDMS, XCAP, 3GPP/2, LTE, EVDO/eHRPD, CDMA, GSM, SS7,
AIN/WIN), IP-networking, capacity planning, performance engineering, mobile device/handset design, etc.
Desired:
• An advanced degree in a Science or Engineering discipline.
• Technical knowledge of Internet-based service delivery systems and architectures.
• Technical knowledge of voice, video, and multi-media content signaling, encoding, and distribution technologies.
• Technical knowledge of wireless communications systems, architectures and standards.
• Experience leading design teams is desired.
